As a quick side note I’ve left off cupcakes and mini-cakes from this post just as I think they’re used so often now most people will have already considered them as an option.
1. A Naked Wedding Cake

Naked wedding cakes are becoming more and more popular in recent years. If you’re not a fan of the super traditional white layered wedding cake, this well may be the perfect option for you. It can be customized in any way you’d like too – from flowers to fresh fruit and lots of alternative in between. Stunning and modern yet simple too.
2. A Macaron Wedding Cake

If you’re a fan of the fancy french Macaron having a cake made entirely of them may seem like a dream come true. This is a lovely alternative if you’re having a smaller wedding with fewer guests to cater for but would also fir perfectly with an afternoon tea. The Macarons could be coloured to fit your theme and can be made in a wide range of flavours too. Gin and Tonic Macaron, anyone?
3. Cheese Wedding Cake

Getting to spend the end of my wedding day sitting down to scoff several different types of cheese, is really something I wish I had done. Cheese wedding cakes are a brilliant idea for several reasons. Firstly, they can double up as evening food – just add bread and crackers. They are also much cheaper than a traditional wedding cake and much easier to transport meaning they are much less prone to disaster or falling apart. Cheese wedding cakes also have a longer shelf life and can be ordered and collected from the supermarket way ahead of time, meaning one less thing to worry about on the big day.
4. A Cheesecake Wedding Cake

Many savvy couples are now opting to serve the wedding cake as dessert to save money on their big day. Take this one step further and turn your wedding cake into an actual dessert. If you’re not a fan of sponge cakes then cheesecakes are one of the best and most fun alternative wedding cake ideas and one that is sure to please your guests, especially those with a sweet tooth. The English Cheesecake Company offer Tiered Cheesecake Wedding Cakes if you need some inspiration. Like with a traditional wedding cake, the layers can be different flavours to help accommodate everyone tastes.
5. Donut Wedding Cake

It was a disappointingly long time after my own wedding that I discovered these bad boys were even an option. Once again this is a perfect alternative and one which requires minimum effort. Donuts can be stacked on a cake or muffin stand and the variety of flavors to choose from is much limitless. Krispy Kreme who would be more donut provider of choice, offer both a donut tower and a donut wall to would be bride and grooms. Of course there is always the budget friendly, but still delicious, supermarket donuts option too.
