Now that Coronavirus restrictions have finally started to ease, many people want to get back into dating and actually meeting up with people in real life. When looking for love, it’s important to find someone who shares some of your interests.

Now, I know it’s unlikely you’ll find someone who shares every single one of your interests or hobbies, but it can really help if you have some activities you can enjoy together. I’ve been on dates in the (very distant!) past with guys who are hugely into sports and just couldn’t believe I had no interest in any type of sport whatsoever.

My husband and I both love watching movies, boxsets and reality competitions (Bake-off, Masterchef, Sewing Bee etc), taking long walks and exploring the countryside, theme parks and are both big foodies who love cooking from scratch and eating out.

The things we don’t share an interest in include NFL (him), quiz nights (me), Zombie shows (him), property hunting programmes (me), metalwork (him) and reading (me). In our relationship, one of the things that works really well is we make plenty of time for enjoying our shared interests as well as allowing each other space to pursue our individual hobbies too.

My husband is a much bigger gamer than I am but when we first started dating we’d spend hours staying up late and playing Mario-Kart. We recently rekindled those moments playing Crash Team Racing and as our daughter grows up I’m sure we’ll teach how to play Mario in the same way we taught my (much) younger brother when we first got together.

How To Meet Other Gamers

If gaming is a big part of your life and something you’re passionate about, then finding someone who shares that interest could be a great start to finding a long-lasting relationship.

However, you may not know where to start when it comes to finding that someone special. One option you could explore is using a gamer dating site. This type of dating website specialises in helping gamers find other gamers that share their love of all things gaming.

Date Ideas For Gamers

Once you’ve got chatting to someone you like, it might be time to set up a date. Virtual first dates are still pretty popular and to be honest, I can see why. It really helps you get a feel for the other person and there’s no need to travel.

Here are some ideas for gamer dates for you’re ready to make that next step and meet up in person. Of course, you can still do classic date ideas such as dinner or meeting for a coffee but I thought these would be a fun way to explore your passion for gaming together.

Retro Gaming Arcade –  Retro gaming arcades can be found all over the country, from Super Bario in Glasgow to Timewarp Arcade in Somerset and they make a great location for a first date. Most featuring a range of retro gaming machines including classics such as Tekken and Pinball. It gives you something to focus on that isn’t just making conversation so works really well if you’re a bit shy or feel nervous about meeting someone new for the first time.

Gaming Convention – If you live in a big city then it’s likely there will be some sort of gaming convention happening at some point during the year with several different ones in London. While it is a big commitment financially as tickets aren’t cheap, it’s a brilliant way to spend the day together while getting to know each other.

VR Experience – These experiences are becoming more and more popular and can often be found in large shopping malls (for example there’s one at Cabot Circus in Bristol).
