I’ve previously written about the cheapest way to get married, so today I wanted to take a look at the Cheapest Day to get married. The cheapest day to get married is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

If you’re looking to save money on your wedding, one way to do this is to go for a less popular day of the week.

What Is The Cheapest Day To Get Married?

Typically midweek weddings are the cheapest, with Friday and Sunday being slightly cheaper than Saturday.

The time of year also has an impact on the cost of your wedding. November and January weddings a typically the cheapest with Saturdays in July and August being the most expensive.

However, before you go ahead and book a wedding for midweek, there are a few things you might want to consider.

You may also want to take into consideration how many of your guests will need to travel for your wedding or will want to stay over as this could increase the amount of time they need to take off from their job.

Remember that some people, such as teachers, may not be able to book any time off during term time. If one of your best friends works in a school you want to consider a half-term or summer holidays wedding!

Things To Consider When Booking a Midweek Wedding

If you’ve decided that a midweek wedding is something you’d like to do, you could save a significant amount of money and be able to afford a venue that might not otherwise have been in your budget.

It could also mean you get married on a day that’s special to you, such as the anniversary of when you met or got engaged or another significant day, for example, May 4th for Star Wars fans.

However, you could also run into a few hiccoughs when booking a midweek wedding. 

As people typically expect a wedding to be on a Saturday they may be surprised you’ve chosen a different day of the week, and they might need an explanation as to why.

For some people, this may mean they need to book time off from work, so do try to give as much notice as possible for a wedding that won’t be taking place on a weekend. That said, as someone who spend many years having to book weekends off for weddings and other family events while I worked in catering, I would have LOVED to be invited to a weekday wedding.

Apparently, Wednesday is the easiest for people to book off from work.

You may also have guests who simply don’t want to or can’t book time off to attend a wedding that isn’t on a weekend.

If you want a lot of children to attend your wedding they would need to take a day of school and their parents and the school may not be happy for them to do this. Again, you’d need to look at money saves vs the possibility of some of your loved ones not being able to attend.

The Cheapest Day For A Wedding: Are There Any Other Options?

As I mentioned above, booking a midweek wedding during a half-term could be one way to get around the issue of children and teachers being unable to attend.

Generally speaking, Sunday Weddings tend to be slightly cheaper than Saturdays and you could book your wedding over a bank holiday weekend so many guests wouldn’t have to work the day afterwards.

Friday is another option which is slightly cheaper but means people only need to book one day away from work or school.

So, while weekday weddings (excluding Fridays) are the cheapest days to get married, you do need to think about your guests and whether they would be willing and able to book time off and allow extra time for travel.

There are definitely savings to be made but don’t let that be at the cost of some of your nearest and dearest not being able to attend.
