When it comes to planning a wedding there are lots of things you’ll need to consider. One of the biggest ones is choosing the date or day you want to get married on.
The majority of couples will opt for a Saturday wedding – it’s the most popular choice being a weekend and most people already being off work.
However, Sunday can work really well for a wedding too. Here are some reasons to consider getting married on a Sunday.
Why You Should Consider Getting Married On A Sunday
1. Getting Married On A Sunday Can Be Much Cheaper
Generally speaking, getting married on a Sunday is much cheaper than getting married on a Saturday. This means your budget could stretch a lot further and a venue that was previously too expensive may be within reach.
Having a Sunday wedding is also a great option if you’re on a very tight budget and looking to save as much money as possible.
2. Team With A Bank Holiday Monday For Long Weekend Fun
One of the main reasons people choose a Saturday wedding is because it means their guests have the off work Sunday to recover from the festivities or travel back home.
If you’re worried about this then you might want to consider teaming your Sunday wedding with a Bank Holiday Monday when most people will be having an extra day off. There is usually one bank holiday Monday at Easter (usually April but it does sometimes fall in March too) Two during May and another one at the end of August.

3. Getting Married On A Sunday Could Mean Better Availability
If you had your heart set on a particular venue but it’s booked up every Saturday for the next two years, you could see whether switching to a Sunday would provide better availability.
Because so many weddings were cancelled and postponed during the Covid-19 Pandemic there is currently a bit of a wedding boom.
Choosing a Sunday could mean your wedding takes place much sooner, rather than waiting a couple of years for a Saturday slot to open up.
You may also find some of your other chosen vendors, such as caters and photographers have better availability for Sundays too.
4. Getting Married On A Sunday Is Better For A More Informal / Quieter Wedding
Sunday can be a great choice if you want a quiet or more informal wedding, or if you’re not keen on having a big evening party.
Guests needing to be back for work on Monday is the perfect excuse for wrapping things up earlier in the day and finishing the celebrations at say 7pm or even earlier if that’s what you want.
Why not have a fun Sunday Brunch or Afternoon Tea theme to keep things light?
Disadvantages Of Getting Married On A Sunday
While all of these are great reasons to get married on a Sunday, if you’re planning on having a church wedding, choosing a Sunday could make things a bit trickier.
You may also find some gusts want to leave the wedding early as typically Sunday is seen as a ‘school night’, meaning most people have work the next day.
I’ve already mentioned counteracting this by booking a bank holiday weekend, another option could be just to make sure everyone has plenty of notice of your wedding so they can book time off if they want to.
Remember, your wedding is your special day so you can choose whichever day you like, even if you think some people might be a little surprised by your choice!
